Origanum Essential Oil

What is Oregano Oil?

Oregano essential oil, also known as origanum essential oil, is extracted from the oregano leaves through steam-distillation. Although oregano is usually known to be a spice for culinary purposes, the essential oil form is concentrated and widely popular due to its natural benefits. A soothing and calming oil, it may help with joint discomfort and skin irritation. There are many origanum essential oil uses which many consumers enjoy for mental and physical healing.

“Delight of the Mountains”

There are many creative ways to use the oil in order to obtain the benefits of oregano essential oil. It can be used for aromatherapeutic purposes to alleviate stress and refresh the mind. Add a couple drops of the oil to your laundry, to a diffuser, or in a cleaning mixture to clean your house. Anywhere around your house, you’ll be able to smell the essential oil and relax.

Another of many origanum essential oil uses is that it can be used topically. One of the greatest benefits of oregano essential oil is that it contains antioxidants which is great for skin. For a youthful appearance, use oregano essential oil to help with brightening and firming your skin for softer, supple skin.

In order to get the most out of oregano essential oil, it is important to understand that essential oils need to be diluted to avoid harm to your skin. Essential oils are volatile and irritating on skin, and some can even cause burns. To safely dilute and get all the benefits of oregano essential oil without causing harm, mix a few drops of the essential oil to a carrier oil, such as jojoba oil or hemp seed oil. Carrier oils help “carry” essential oils to the skin without irritation or burning.
